Learning to work with data enables educators to make decisions about teaching and learning. These decisions range from determining student placement to using appropriate curriculum and teaching strategies. Teachers collect data from classroom assessments and external tests to inform their teaching practice and their professional growth.
This module provides an overview of student achievement data. It defines and clarifies various types of student achievement data, introduces how data can be gathered and organized effectively, and introduces data analysis questions.
By working through this module, participants will be provided with illustrative examples of technology-assisted data warehousing and analysis courtesy of SP SnapShot™. The sample graphs that are analyzed will illustrate how technology can assist educators in organizing and displaying data for analysis and interpretation.
Module topics include:
- understanding data basics
- types of data: sources and purpose
- understanding standardized tests
