Chapter 1:
Introduction
This module will help teachers become more familiar with current
instructional strategies and practices that enhance and support
learning in all content areas and at all levels. Specific module
objectives include:
- identifying and discussing what is meant by
active learning and classroom evidence that indicates such
learning is occurring
- recognizing the need for careful instructional design
- making connections among educational theory, instructional
strategies, and instructional practice
- developing patterns of teaching that incorporate a variety
of strategies and practices in support of all
learning styles
- using
evaluation strategies that are appropriate
to active learning
- developing a working knowledge of the theoretical support for
active learning ideas
Module users have the opportunity to reflect on personal experiences
with learning in the classroom and on ways to expand an active
teaching and learning repertoire.
