This module examines the concept of instructional strategy selection and use by expert teachers. It includes practical activities and reflections designed to assist educators as they consider which teaching practices are most effective and how each one can be adapted to different grade levels and subjects.

Effective educators know that teaching is a very complex act and certainly not as easy as practiced professionals make it look. Teaching is learned and refined on the job and skilled teachers continue to learn throughout their careers—from each other and from their students. The most proficient teachers continually seek out and examine new ideas and practices. They attend or create their own professional development opportunities. They know that learning about and improving their craft is a life-long endeavor.
